The church calendar began to be formulated practically the moment Christ was crucified and rose again. In this first installment of our trip through the church’s calendar, we lay things out in the order they are practiced today and take note of regional variations in the observance of church holidays. The church catholic has always looked for ways to observe and celebrate the life of Christ, but the form it takes today in the West took time to reach its current state.
